What changes
Four reasons people remap
More power
A remap can noticeably lift horsepower and torque, particularly on turbocharged engines — quicker acceleration and easier overtaking.
Better economy
Optimising how the engine delivers fuel and boost can improve fuel economy on a steady run, and lower emissions with it.
Smoother delivery
A more linear, consistent power band. Flat spots and surges through the rev range are ironed out.
Stronger under load
Extra low and mid-range torque makes towing a caravan, trailer or a loaded van far less like hard work.
Options
Which remap suits you
Every map is written for your engine and checked on the road before you take the vehicle away. Not sure which you need? Tell us how you use the car and we’ll advise.
Stage 1
For a standard, unmodified vehicle. The biggest single gain most owners will feel.
- No mechanical changes needed
- Power, torque and throttle response
- Cars, vans and 4x4s
- Same-day in most cases
Stage 2
For vehicles running supporting hardware upgrades that a standard map can’t take advantage of.
- Written around your existing mods
- Higher output than Stage 1
- Hardware assessed first
Economy remap
Prioritises mid-range torque and fuel efficiency over peak power — built for vans, tow cars and daily motorway miles.
- Focused on real-world MPG
- Ideal for fleet vehicles
- Ask about multi-vehicle rates
About the work
Top Gear Tuning at NMD Automotive
We’re an authorised Top Gear Tuning dealer working out of our workshop in Whitstable, Kent. That means your map isn’t a generic file pulled off a shelf — it’s written for your engine, using software backed by one of the UK’s established tuning houses.
Our technicians remap cars, vans and 4x4s of all makes, from daily diesels and work vans up to performance cars. Every vehicle is checked before we start, and road tested after, so you leave with something that drives properly rather than just reads well on paper.
- More power and torque across the range
- Improved fuel efficiency
- Sharper throttle response and drivability
- Stage 1 and Stage 2 maps, road tested
Common questions
Remapping FAQ
What are the benefits of a power remap?
Increased horsepower and torque, better throttle response and smoother power delivery. The one people often overlook is improved fuel economy — particularly on longer runs and when the vehicle is loaded.
What is ECU remapping?
Your ECU runs to a set of parameters written at the factory, chosen to suit every market, fuel quality and service schedule the manufacturer sells into. Remapping adjusts those parameters for your vehicle specifically — tuning for performance, fuel efficiency and throttle response.
Will a remap void my warranty?
Some manufacturers will void a warranty if the vehicle has been remapped. If your vehicle is still under warranty, check with your warranty provider before booking in with us — we’d rather you knew where you stood first.
How long does it take?
Most Stage 1 remaps are done the same day. We’ll confirm timings when you book, and let you know if your vehicle needs anything checking beforehand.
