Car servicing in Whitstable & Canterbury

Interim, full and major servicing to manufacturer specifications. Quality parts, correct oil grades and honest reporting on what your vehicle actually needs — not a checklist exercise with upsells bolted on.

Why regular servicing matters

A service isn’t a luxury — it’s the single most effective thing you can do to keep your vehicle reliable, safe and efficient. Engine oil degrades over time, filters clog, fluids lose their effectiveness, and components wear in ways that aren’t visible until something fails.

A well-maintained vehicle starts reliably, uses less fuel, brakes more effectively and holds its value at resale. A neglected one costs more in the long run — the repair bill from a missed service is almost always larger than the service itself would have been.

At NMD, servicing isn’t a quick oil change and a stamp in the book. We use the correct specification oil for your engine (this matters more than most people realise), fit quality filters, and carry out a thorough inspection of the vehicle’s mechanical and safety components. If we find anything that needs attention, we’ll tell you clearly and quote before doing any additional work.

Which service does your vehicle need?

Your servicing schedule depends on mileage, usage and how long it’s been since the last service. Here’s a practical guide — and if you’re not sure which applies to your vehicle, call us with your registration and last service date and we’ll tell you.

Every 6 months / 6,000 miles

Interim Service

The essential maintenance check for vehicles that cover higher mileage or are used for lots of short trips. Keeps the engine protected between full services.

Includes: Engine oil and filter change (correct spec oil), top-up of all fluids, tyre condition and pressure check, brake inspection, battery check, visual safety inspection, lights check
Every 12 months / 12,000 miles

Full Service

The standard annual service for most vehicles. Covers everything in the interim plus a more thorough inspection and replacement of additional filters and components.

Includes everything above plus: Air filter replacement, pollen/cabin filter replacement, fuel filter check, spark plug inspection, full brake measurement, suspension and steering check, exhaust inspection, drive belt check, detailed vehicle report
Every 24 months / 24,000 miles

Major Service

The most comprehensive service. Recommended every two years or at the mileage intervals specified by your vehicle’s manufacturer. Covers all the items that don’t need changing annually but degrade over time.

Includes everything above plus: Spark plug replacement, brake fluid change, coolant condition check and top-up/replacement, gearbox oil check, fuel filter replacement (where applicable), full diagnostic scan, comprehensive road test

Why service your car at NMD rather than a main dealer?

You don’t need to go back to the dealer to maintain your warranty. Under the Block Exemption regulations, any independent garage can service your vehicle to the manufacturer’s schedule using the correct specification parts and fluids — and the warranty remains valid.

Correct specification, not generic

We use the oil grade specified by your vehicle’s manufacturer — not a generic “fits all” oil. This matters particularly on modern engines where the wrong specification can cause DPF issues, increased wear, or invalidate a warranty claim. Your service book gets stamped with the correct details.

Quality parts

Filters, spark plugs, brake fluid and other consumables are sourced from OE-equivalent or better suppliers. We don’t use the cheapest parts available — we use the right ones.

Honest reporting

After every service, you’ll get a clear report of what was done, what condition the vehicle is in, and whether anything needs attention now or in the near future. No scare tactics, no inflated lists of “urgent” work. Just a straight picture of where your vehicle stands.

Typically 30–50% less than the dealer

Same standard of work, same specification parts and fluids, same schedule — without the dealer overhead built into the price.

What happens when you book a service

1. We confirm what’s needed

Give us your registration and we’ll confirm which service level is due based on your mileage, last service date and manufacturer schedule. No guesswork — we check the specifics for your vehicle.

2. Drop the vehicle off

Bring the vehicle in at your booked time. We’re open Monday to Friday 8:30–5:30 and Saturday mornings 8:30–12:30. You can wait in our reception or leave the vehicle with us and collect later.

3. We carry out the service

Every item on the service checklist is completed, along with the visual and mechanical inspection. If we find anything additional that needs attention, we call you before doing anything — you’ll never get a bill for work you didn’t agree to.

4. Report and collection

You get a clear written report, your service book is stamped, and the digital service record is updated where applicable. We’ll walk you through any findings when you collect.

Vehicles we service

We service all makes and models — from the daily runabout to the weekend performance car. Our parts system holds specifications for virtually every vehicle on UK roads, so we’re ordering the correct oil, filters and components for your exact engine, not a generic fit.

BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Jaguar — premium vehicles are a particular strength. We carry the specialist oils and filters that these engines require, and we understand the digital service record systems.

Ford, Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall — the everyday workhorses. Correctly serviced, these vehicles run reliably for years. Badly serviced, they don’t — and the difference is often just the oil specification.

Vans and light commercials — Transit, Transit Custom, Sprinter, Vivaro, Ranger. Correct service intervals matter more on commercial vehicles because the mileage and usage patterns are harder on the engine.

Motorhomes — we carry out mechanical servicing for motorhomes alongside habitation checks.

Combine your service with an MOT

If your MOT is due around the same time, it makes sense to have both done in one visit. We’ll carry out the service and MOT together — one drop-off, one collection. If the MOT picks up anything that overlaps with the service (worn brakes, a tyre close to the limit), it’s already in hand.

We also carry out wheel alignment, diagnostics, air conditioning regas and any other work your vehicle needs. If it’s easier to bundle everything into one appointment, just let us know when you book.

Common questions about car servicing

How much does a car service cost?
It depends on the service level (interim, full or major) and your vehicle. Call us on 01227 794 777 or email your registration and we’ll give you a clear quote for the correct service.
How often should I service my car?
As a general guide: interim service every 6 months or 6,000 miles, full service every 12 months or 12,000 miles, and major service every 24 months or 24,000 miles. Your vehicle’s manufacturer schedule may vary — we can confirm the correct intervals from your registration.
Will servicing at NMD affect my warranty?
No. Under the Block Exemption regulations, any independent garage can service your vehicle to the manufacturer’s schedule using the correct specification parts and fluids without affecting your warranty. We stamp your service book and update digital service records where applicable.
What oil do you use?
The correct grade specified by your vehicle’s manufacturer — not a generic oil. We check the specification for your exact engine and use the matching product. This is particularly important on modern turbocharged, diesel and hybrid engines.
How long does a service take?
An interim service typically takes 1–2 hours. A full service takes 2–3 hours. A major service may take half a day depending on the vehicle and what’s included. We’ll give you a time estimate when you book.
Can I wait while my car is being serviced?
Yes — we have a waiting area in reception. Alternatively, drop the vehicle off and collect later. Many customers drop off first thing and collect at the end of the day.
Do you service vans and commercial vehicles?
Yes. We service all light commercial vehicles including Transit, Transit Custom, Sprinter, Vivaro, Ranger and similar. Correct service intervals and oil specifications are particularly important on commercial vehicles.
My service light is on — do I need to come in immediately?
A service indicator light means the vehicle is due or overdue for a service — it’s a reminder, not an emergency. Book in when you can, ideally within the next week or two. If the light is an engine warning light rather than a service reminder, that’s different and worth having checked sooner.
